To perform various cleaning, set-up, and tear-down tasks within assigned areas; may include swimming pool, restrooms, locker rooms, hallways, multi-purpose arena, offices, classrooms, special purpose rooms, conference rooms, recital hall, theater; football stadium and its box office, press box, restrooms, concessions and fixed sitting areas. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Clean assigned areas following established schedules and prescribed methods; may include removing trash, sweeping and/or dust mopping floors, polishing hard surfaces, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows and mirrors, dusting furniture, equipment, and ledges, wet mopping floors, vacuuming swimming pool, and washing off tabletops, countertops, equipment, and chalkboards. Arrange and set-up furniture, staging, athletic, and/or physical education activity equipment, etc. working from diagrams, written, and/or oral instructions. Tear-down and rearrange rooms/areas following the completion of activities. Lock and unlock building and rooms, close windows, and turn off lights. Sweep and/or remove debris, leaves, snow and ice from steps and walks at building entrances. Perform special projects as assigned; may include shampooing carpets, stripping and waxing floors, washing walls, windows, baseboards, scrubbing multi-purpose arena, weight room floors, and pool deck. Maintain assigned equipment for safety and cleanliness and report malfunctioning equipment. Load, unload, and move supplies. RELATED DUTIES:Observe and report the need for repairs and replacement of equipment, furniture, and fixtures. Move furniture and equipment as needed for cleaning purposes. Assist other custodial specialist and custodial personnel as required. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Assignments and administrative supervision are received from the Associate Vice President and/or his designee(s).?SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May be responsible for student employees assigned to them.?MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent may be considered. Valid Michigan Driver LicenseOne year of custodial experience. Ability to effectively communicate with others and maintain good working relations with supervisors, co-workers, and the University community. Ability to work alone or as member of a team, perform job duties within scheduled time limits, and adapt to flexible and emergency scheduling. Ability to apply and follow custodial specialist safety procedures. Knowledge of the proper use and care of cleaning equipment and solutions/chemicals. Ability to follow clearly defined oral and/or written instructions. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation. Ability to pass any State/ Federal mandated training, licensing, and/or certification requirements, within a reasonable period of time. Must pass job-related physical examination and relevant skill test prior to being appointed to the position. Ability to begin and follow through with the task(s) or plan identified in the job description, and to take the first step in performance of those duties and responsibilities. Reporting of facilities or grounds maintenance needs which are observed.
