Supervision is provided by the Parks Superintendent. Supervise and schedule all employees who perform tasks related to the maintenance of parks, athletic complexes, municipal building grounds and all public property. Purchase needed supplies to accomplish related tasks. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions/ Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Complies with all city policies and procedures, including those defined in the City of Mc. Kinney Employee Handbook Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures. Drives to and from assigned work locations. Provide timely, accurate and thorough performance evaluations for supervised employees. Supervises personnel. Inspects equipment and park facilities. Assigns work tasks. Supervises contracted services. Responds to citizen concerns and complaints. Communicates with various sport associations. Works with other city departments to accomplish tasks. Performs related work as directed by supervisor and or director. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS Meet the City's driving standards. Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data and/or information using established criteria. Includes exercise of discretion in determining actual or probable consequences, and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives. Requires the ability to inform and guide others by applying principles of professional counseling in addressing specific situations. Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as equipment manuals, athletic field diagrams, architectural drawings, city maps, work orders and City policy manuals. Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution. Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. Requires the ability to perform semi-skilled coordinated movements, such as operating a tractor, ground maintenance equipment, and utilizing mechanic, plumbing, electrical, diagnostic tools and drafting instruments. Pass a drug screen, physical examination and a background check. The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect. Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers. Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. Five (5) years experience in parks maintenance and three (3) years supervisory experience. Ability to pass a medical physical examination. Valid Texas Driver's License required. State of Texas Irrigation License and Certified Applicator License preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Over two-thirds of on-the-job time: Standing; Walking; Sitting; Using hands to touch, handle or feel objects; Reaching with hands and arms; Climbing or balancing; Stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; Talking and hearing; Tasting/ Smelling; and the ability to lift and/or exert force up to fifty (50) pounds. Between one and two-thirds of on the job time may require lifting and/or exerting force up to one-hundred (100) pounds. ENVIRONMENTAL Over two-thirds of on-the-job time: Wet or humid (non-weather) conditions; Working near moving mechanical parts; Outdoor weather conditions; Extreme cold and heat (non-weather). Less than one-third of on-the-job time: Fumes or airborne particles; Toxic or caustic chemicals; Risk of electrical shock; Vibration.
