As a human centric organization, a priority is to ensure we have the “right seats” in our organization, and that the expectations, ownership and accountabilities are defined and communicated clearly for the success of the individuals holding the seats. Residence Life currently has openings for a 12-month, professional live-in position reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life. The Residence Hall Coordinator or Area Hall Coordinator participates as a member of the Residence Life staff, creates opportunities for student development through the Residence Life Learning Plan and individual student interactions, and demonstrates a strong student focus with evening and weekend commitments. This position is responsible for the organization and leadership of the student development programs, supervision of student staff, and management of administrative operations of a residence hall. Residence Life is committed to the concept that students should have the opportunity for growth and development outside of the classroom with Residence Life as an integral part of this learning experience. The Residence Hall Coordinator and Area Hall Coordinator are key individuals in the overall operation and success of a growing community within a residence hall. In supporting the learning environment, the Residence Hall Coordinator and Area Hall Coordinator are role models, mentors and leaders, and they facilitate opportunities to enhance the overall experience and education of the students who reside on campus. The successful candidate must enjoy living and working with university-age students and be committed to holistic education and student development. OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/ OR TASKS - Staff Responsibilities. Supervise, train, and evaluate student staff. This includes weekly/biweekly meetings with the Senior Resident Assistant and Resident Assistants both individually and collectively. The Residence Hall Coordinator and Area Hall Coordinator also supervises a front desk staff, in which they are responsible for hiring, supervising and evaluating Desk Attendants and creating a work schedule for the desk in the respective hall. Administration and Management. Maintain general operation of the residence hall including attention to administrative tasks and responsibilities, budget management, assessment of the physical building and student living environment, and communication with the appropriate custodial and facilities staff as needed. Engage with other campus departments and personnel in the administration of primary and collateral duties. Participate in university committees where appropriate. Student Outreach. Establish personal contact with students in order to adequately address student needs and concerns. Remain visible, approachable, and active in the halls. Actively working toward the university goal of increasing student retention by knowing residents and assisting them as they navigate all aspects of university life. Leadership and Programming. Facilitate the leadership development of student staff, assist with advising the Residence Hall Council, organize and lead enriching activities with student staff and the Residence Hall Council, implement the Residence Life Learning Plan designed to support first-year and second-year students as they transition to the rigors and responsibilities of university life, provide ongoing supervision and support to residents and student staff. Mentoring, Advising, and Crisis Intervention. Provide assistance to students experiencing emotional, academic, physical, and/or interpersonal difficulties, and refer them to appropriate professional support and resources when necessary. Assist in crisis/emergency situations. Attend trainings provided by the Residence Life department throughout the year. Policy and Discipline. Understand, interpret, and enforce campus policies and regulations. Conduct educational disciplinary meetings with students following policy violations and assign appropriate sanctions. Support Resident Assistants in the enforcement of policies and regulations. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all conduct related situations. Duty Coverage and Accessibility. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to campus emergencies. Maintain scheduled office hours in the residence hall and be readily available to support emerging situations and concerns. Other Responsibilities. Participate in Residence Life administrative tasks, including professional and student staff selection and training, on-going staff development, and complete individual collateral assignments, including but not limited to:Coordinator of Desk Attendant hiring and training. Summer Conferences Coordinator. Conduct Board Chair. Coordinator of Resident Assistant Selection, Training and/or Recognition. Coordinator of Marketing. Coordinator of Data Analysis. Supervisory Responsibilities. The Residence Hall Coordinator and Area Hall Coordinator supervises and advises the Desk Attendant student staff, Senior Resident Assistants, and Resident Assistants for their respective residence hall(s). The Residence Hall Coordinator and Area Hall Coordinator is responsible for overseeing undergraduate residence hall(s) housing approximately 300 on-campus residents.
