At the City and County of Broomfield, environmental sustainability is a focal point of long-term social, economic, and environmental health. We are looking to hire a Sustainability Manager to provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Sustainability Division. This position requires the ability to influence decision makers, navigate political barriers, and institute change within the organization.
Essential Required Tasks/ Examples of Duties
This position serves as a primary advisor on sustainability policy and is responsible for driving progress in the following key areas:City-wide Integration: Leading the internal shift toward sustainable municipal operations through cross-departmental collaboration. Policy & Planning: The development and execution of the Greenhouse Gas, Zero Waste, and sustainability related sections of the Comprehensive Plans. Operational Management: Oversight of division budget, grant lifecycles, and recycling operations. Strategic Advocacy: Representing Broomfield’s environmental interests to the ACES committee, City Council, and regional partners.
Minimum Qualifications
Education. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or another closely related field - required. Experience 5 years experience required in a sustainability focused field that may include Waste Management & Circular Economy, Renewable Energy & Engineering, or Urban Planning & Green Building - required . years supervision experience - required. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) experience- preferred. Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):Must be 18 years or older. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check, sex-offender registry, and DMV check. Certifications:Valid AED, First Aid and CPR certifications - preferred.
