Must be a City of Miramar Resident - - JOB SUMMARY - This position offers training and career development for youth in the community. The apprenticeship will expose youth to various facets of careers in the Utilities/ Public Works industry. This position will be under frequent supervision, assists in operating the City's Public Works/ Utilities system including water and wastewater treatment facilities, field operation system, and computer aided operation system in accordance with all state and federal regulatory criteria and all safety policies and procedures. The apprentices hired for this position should expect to learn many aspects and will leave this position with invaluable skills and industry knowledge. Minimum Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under direct and continual supervision by a licensed operator or other authorized personnel: Monitors and records readings of gauges, meters and computers; follow instructions and directions to make necessary operational adjustments to ensure compliance. Assists in maintaining daily log books, and documenting daily operations activities. Assists in operating the City's Utilities system including water and wastewater treatment facilities, field operation systems, and computer aided operation systems. Participates in general plant maintenance, including cleaning system components, performing general housekeeping, etc. Performs laboratory tests as required under supervision. Performs assigned duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety. Maintains assigned equipment. Assists plant mechanics with light-duty maintenance projects. Operates various equipment, including a computer, calculator, pumps, lab equipment, blowers, chlorine analyzer, meters, mechanic's tools, various other hand and power tools, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, co-workers, other City personnel.
Position Requirements/ Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Must be a City of Miramar resident. The pay is $15.87/hour. A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must be between the ages of 18-26 Must be able to work the required 20 hours per week. Must have the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions. Must be able to pass a drug test. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. We also include uniform requirements and the shift requirements. Acceptable drug test results, background check. Physically able to perform trade. Transportation to attend classes and work assignments. Ability to commit to a two -year work contract. Preferred Qualifications: None
