The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for two Education Coordinators at Palmer Correctional Center (PCC) located in Sutton, Alaska. Watch Alaska DOC's video here:DOC Extended Cut.mp 4 (vimeo.com)What You Will Be Doing:Under the general supervision of the Probation Officer 3, this position is responsible for teaching and assisting PCC's prisoner population with obtaining a high level of education, including work with Adult Basic Education, the GED, vocational training, post-secondary education, and cognitive self-change. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in education, counseling, social or behavior sciences or a closely related field;AND - One year of journey level paraprofessional experience in educational or vocational education programs or services. This experience is equivalent to work such as the Vocational Rehabilitation Assistant 2 or Education Program Assistant, and similar classes with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent with another employer. Additional qualifying work experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis. Special Note:An extensive background investigation will be required for successful applicants. Working with inmates requires care in observing institution security policies and procedures and may involve personal risk. Some positions perform activities that require bending, crouching, walking or standing for long periods of time. Some work activities involve discomfort or unpleasantness such as moderate noise levels, vibration, dust, dirt or odors associated with operation of equipment and/or tools in performance of duties.
