The Safety Specialist - Wet & Dry Utilities - MD, DC will be responsible for:Supporting and enforcing all company, client, and regulatory safety policies across utility projects. Conducting regular site safety inspections for wet and dry utility work including trenching, excavation, shoring, utilities installation, and restoration. Identifying hazards and unsafe conditions and working with operations teams to implement corrective actions. Leading jobsite safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training for field crews and subcontractors. Ensuring compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations specific to underground utility work. Reviewing and approving job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and site specific safety plans. Investigating incidents, near misses, and injuries and preparing clear, timely reports with recommended preventative measures. Partnering with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to promote a proactive safety culture. Tracking safety metrics including inspections, incidents, and corrective actions and reporting trends to leadership. Coordinating with subcontractors to ensure alignment with safety expectations and documentation requirements. Supporting emergency response planning and execution on active jobsites. Staying current on safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards related to utility construction. . The Successful Applicant. The Safety Specialist - Wet & Dry Utilities - MD, DC will have:3 years of safety experience in heavy civil, utility, or underground construction. Direct experience with wet and dry utilities including excavation, trenching, shoring, and confined space work. Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and state/local safety requirements in MD and DCOSHA 30 certification required (OSHA 500 or 510 preferred)CPR/ First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)Experience conducting jobsite audits, inspections, and incident investigations. Ability to write clear, thorough safety reports and corrective action plans. Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with field crews, supervisors, and subcontractors. Proficiency with safety documentation, reports, and basic technology platforms. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between jobsites as needed. Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to influence and build a strong safety culture.
