The Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDST) provides strategic leadership across the department’s educational, research, and administrative missions. In light of the department’s anticipated growth, particularly the expansion of program offerings and the continued development of the Health Science Program and the BS in Health Sciences (BSHS) into clearly defined pathways leading to graduate professional programs within SHP, the next Chair will be a visionary leader. This individual will guide the department through a period of significant change and opportunity, fostering innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics: Visionary leader who can articulate a plan for an integrated health sciences pipeline and inspire faculty, staff, students, and external partners to work toward it. Demonstrated success as a strategic builder of new or expanding academic programs, with a track record of moving complex initiatives from concept to sustainable implementation. Skilled relationship-builder who can serve as the public “face” of the department within the school, and the broader community. Exceptional communication skills who can translate concepts into clear messages for different audiences, listen carefully, handle conflict management and negotiation and provide honest yet constructive feedback. Collaborative and transparent leadership style. Strong record of mentoring faculty and staff, including support for scholarly productivity, promotion, and leadership development. Demonstrated commitment to interprofessional education and practice, with the ability to connect the health sciences curriculum to multiple professional pathways (e.g., PT, PA, nutrition, and related fields). Entrepreneurial mindset who can identify opportunities and develop innovative programs that enhance the department’s academic profile and community impact. Data-informed decision maker who uses assessment, outcomes data, and stakeholder feedback to guide program development, student success initiatives, and resource allocation. Personal qualities of integrity, resilience, optimism, and follow-through, with a leadership presence that builds trust and a culture of mutual respect. Enthusiasm about external engagement including community outreach and alumni relations Position Status Full Time Posting Number 26 FA 0400 Posting Open Date Posting Close Date Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience The Interdisciplinary Studies Chair must hold a doctoral degree either in a specific healthcare profession or research degree and be eligible for the rank of full or associate professor. They must demonstrate a clear understanding of the key Departmental initiatives as well as be able to articulate a vision and key elements of a plan for its future which support the School’s strategic goals. The chair should have demonstrated experience in budget management and general fiscal stewardship. Further, the chair should have a strong record of sustained and substantial academic leadership and skills in facilitating research, scholarship and service.
