Defines and owns the processes required to manufacture drive train components in high volume production facility utilizing Laser, CD/ Resistance, and any other Weld process, equipment and technology in conjunction with a high degree of automation. Minimum Requirements 7 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing or welding-related roles (Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive preferred). Experience with industrial laser welders, CD/ Resistance welding machines, servo-driven presses, and automated welding cells preferred. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional studies in Welding, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering is a plus. Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills highly recommended. Knowledge of automation used in manufacturing (robotics, conveyors, pick-and-place devices). Strong oral, written, and presentation skills. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently. Capable of interfacing with corporate staff, vendors, customers, and employees. Knowledge of QS 9000, IATF 16949, or ISO certification processes preferred. Experience with plant startups and major product launches is a plus. Job Specific Responsibilities. Analyze customer-supplied weld drawings and provide input/direction to ensure compliance with specifications. Support the development and execution of welding processes (Laser, CD/ Resistance) for high-volume automated drive train component production. Evaluate weld destruct data to identify process improvement opportunities. Document manufacturing processes, control plans, reaction plans, PFME - As, and update as required. Define gauging methods and support testing plans for validating weld integrity. Support purchasing, supplier quality, and manufacturing during new product launches and ongoing production. Collaborate with management, engineering, maintenance, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and process requirements. Assist in developing specifications and procuring welding equipment, tooling, gauges, and test equipment. Set up welding equipment and support training of production teams on process checks, maintenance, and verification of operation parameters. Apply statistical methods to determine machinery and process capabilities. Utilize problem-solving techniques (8-Step, DOE, mistake-proofing) to identify and implement solutions. Support plant layout and material handling strategies as they relate to welding operations. Provide support and lead training activities for shop floor personnel, including operators, inspectors, and maintenance teams. Co-lead and support activities for weld validation equipment (e.g., MTS test stands), including setup, testing, training, and documentation. Maintain and follow safety and laser compliance requirements, including Laser Safety Officer (LSO) responsibilities under ANSI Z 136 standards. Participate in CQI-15 Weld Process Audits and IATF initiatives. Support continuous improvement, cost reduction projects, and process innovation related to welding operations.
