The Elevator Mechanic position is part of a dynamic, service-focused facilities team within the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Division of Facilities Planning & Management. We are seeking a skilled Elevator Mechanic to repair, troubleshoot, modernize, and maintain a wide range of traction and hydraulic elevators. Elevator Mechanics ensure that elevator equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must possess strong service skills and have broad knowledge of the elevator trade. This position will work closely with regulatory agencies on code compliance related to elevators and other vehicle lift equipment. Ongoing/ Renewable. Full-Time: 100% FTE - Work is performed onsite and is generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm. This position requires availability for occasional overtime and after-hours calls. The incumbent in this role will be on a rotational after-hour call list with their elevator mechanic team members. Key Job Responsibilities:Collaborates with contractors, manages contractor service agreements, and reviews billable repairs. Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations. Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations. Performs skilled elevator construction, modernization, and repairs according to established standards, applicable codes, and inspections. Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs. Interprets blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client. Required Qualifications:Elevator Mechanic license with the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services by start of employment: Pages/ Professions/ Elevator. Mechanic/ Default.aspx. Experience in repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining traction and hydraulic elevators, escalators, and dumbwaiters. Drivers License Required - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Preferred Qualifications:Five (5) years or more of experience as an Elevator Service Mechanic for a licensed contractor. Completion of a registered apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as an Elevator Constructor as defined on the National Elevator Industry Educational Program website: Skilled in troubleshooting/repairing controllers.
