By joining our Structures Section as Highway Technician Superintendent II in Hopkins County, you’ll have the opportunity to supervise, assign and schedule the work of employees on the structures crew. Summary of Responsibilities: Supervise and assign the work of structures crew for daily work assignments Supervise and assist highway employees in maintenance and repair of bridges, roadways, and other structures Maintain records and reports such as inventory reports, employee performance evaluations Respond and properly supervise snow and ice removal and other emergencies Ideal candidate will have experience in: Supervisory management, coordinating assignments Maintaining records, conducting employee performance evaluation, minor repairs and maintenance Handling emergency situations such as snow and ice events Working with a team Experience in equipment operations: proven experience operating single axle dump trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, mowing machines, chain saws, and bush axes Benefits & Perks: Comprehensive health with optional dental and vision insurance Retirement savings Professional Development opportunities and ongoing training. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have twelve years of construction or highway maintenance experience. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 2 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Must be able to respond to emergencies 24/7. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18 A.111.
