The Group Lead and Function Owner for Light Control directs the activities of the CLS Light Control Function and assures delivery of high-quality control algorithms and automation with rigorous performance, reliability, and cost requirements. In this role, you oversee and guide the day-to-day functioning of a team of Control and Algorithms Engineers, technical architects, and Project Leads; steer relevant control architectures and technical paths; assign and review the work of the team; and collaborate closely with management, systems engineering, product management, and cross-functional engineering partners to deliver robust, production-ready solutions for Cymer and ASML. Directs a group of control and algorithms engineers, technical architects, and project leads to deliver new and upgraded laser light control algorithms and automation in alignment with Program and Company objectives. Oversees the operation of the Light Control Function, including goal setting, work assignments, prioritization, project allocation, monitoring technical progress, ensuring quality of deliverables, and managing staffing, performance, and career development. Owns Light Control function roadmap and functional deliverables across the full product lifecycle, including concept development, requirements, implementation, verification, release readiness, and long-term sustainment. Acts as function owner for Light Control by defining and enforcing functional policies, standards, and ways of working, and ensuring consistent implementation across projects and products. Applies deep technical expertise in control systems and automation to guide the team in meeting performance, reliability, and cost requirements. Provides technical leadership across overlapping domains including laser physics, electronics, mechanical systems, embedded software, systems engineering, and data analysis, etc. Collaborates with Light Control architects and project leads to align on requirements and scope, priorities, functional roadmaps, and delivery timelines. Participates in developing technology roadmaps and defining technical elements of the business strategy. Assesses existing capabilities and develops new technical approaches and competencies to enable future product needs. Collaborates with Program to define project scope, estimate effort, resources, and schedules, and to align and negotiate resource allocations in support of Program objectives. Interprets, implements, and monitors changes to department methods, processes, and policies that affect the Light Control work group. Monitors and guides the quality of control designs and deliverables through disciplined reviews and verification activities (design reviews, EP - Ss, V&V, integration readiness, etc.), ensuring release-ready and production-robust solutions. Develops the Light Control Function’s technical capabilities, team composition, processes, and procedures to support the needs of D&E and CLS overall, and to strengthen execution, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the function. Interfaces with other CLS sectors and departments (Manufacturing, Install Base, Marketing, etc.) and Systems Engineering to coordinate activities, requirements, and priorities. Works with other Functions and Competencies Group Leads to understand cross-functional work and personnel needs, and to ensure appropriate resource allocation in support of Light Control deliverables. Performs sustaining responsibilities by providing technical leadership during escalations and approving technical changes to released products within the Light Control domain. Other duties as assigned; job responsibilities may evolve with business needs. Education and experience. Requires minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering, with a Control Systems emphasis. PhD Degree is a plus. Requires 8 years of relevant work experience, or combination of industry experience and relevant doctoral research. Participated on a project team of moderate size and delivered a successful product, handling schedules, documentation, design processes, and final delivery. Experience designing complex algorithms and control systems. Experience in semiconductor equipment design is highly desirable. Previous experience managing a team is highly desirable. Skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong people-leadership skills, including coaching, feedback, team development, and fostering accountability. Advanced execution leadership, including coaching project leads and balancing between programs. Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats. Customer support skills, with an understanding of customer relationship building, including with internal customers. A strong understanding and demonstrated success in the application of control systems, algorithms, and automation for complex electromechanical systems. Demonstrated ability to meet commitments and ensure work products are of high quality. Knowledge of good engineering practices. Ability to align group objectives with corporate objectives and work cross-functionally to achieve these. Ability to think strategically. Other Information - May require occasional travel, up to 10% of time. The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:$172,500-258,750 Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
