Communications Tech The Communications Tech supports OPPD's mission by installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a wide range of communication technologies critical to District operations. This role ensures that OPPD's land mobile radio systems, microwave and fiber transmission equipment, telephone and paging systems, and other electronic communication assets operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will develop broad technical knowledge across multiple communication platforms and play a key role in supporting both daily operations and long term system enhancements. What You Will Do Install, operate, and maintain communications equipment including mobile radio units, base stations, microwave and fiber optic transmission systems, telephone and data equipment, intercom, paging, and additional electronic communication platforms. Fulfill system requests and support change management activities; respond to system incidents within established service level agreements. Troubleshoot system issues to maintain high communication system reliability. Test, repair, and rebuild various types of communication equipment. Locate the source of customer radio and television interference complaints. Support and implement scheduled preventive maintenance activities. Support mitigation of operational problems caused by equipment failures or external interference. Identify opportunities to create procedures or formalize processes. Provide input to update or create task-level documentation that supports efficient daily work. Project Delivery Participate as a technical resource on assigned projects to support lifecycle management, enhancements to existing systems, or implementation of new technologies. Assist with planning and execution of project activities as directed by engineering staff or project managers. Provide input for creating Bills of Material (BOM), Statements of Work (SOW), and Requests for Proposals (RFP) led by engineering or management. Your work directly supports field crews, operational teams, and critical infrastructure by ensuring radios, microwave networks, fiber systems, and other communication technologies perform flawlessly. The expertise you bring will help prevent outages, resolve issues quickly, and strengthen the safety and efficiency of the entire district. Ultimately, your contributions will enable OPPD to deliver dependable service to the communities that rely on us every day. Qualifications What You'll Bring Must Have 3-5 years of equivalent experience or an Associate's Degree in electronics technology or related field, plus at least 2 years of experience with: Installing, operating, and maintaining telecommunications equipment in one or more relevant areas. Troubleshooting communication systems to maintain reliable performance. Testing, repairing, and rebuilding communication technology equipment. A valid Driver's License. Ability to qualify for Fort Calhoun and NERC unescorted access Desired Valid General Radio Telephone Operator License (GROL). Experience locating sources of radio or television interference. Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or computer science. A certification.Network certification. Tower climbing experience.
