Risk Management Specialist - Limited Duration

Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking a Risk Management Specialist. This limited duration position is expected to last between three to five years; it will be assigned to the Administration Department. Under the direction of the Risk Management Administrator, this position will be responsible for performing highly complex risk management work overseeing, developing, implementing, and reviewing risk management and loss control programs, policies, procedures, and guidelines. The successful candidate will have strong critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive information. Duties of the position will include: Investigate and adjust third party claims;Serve as liaison with the District's third-party Workers' Compensation claims administrator and research and resolve employee concerns regarding Workers' Compensation claims;Oversee Division contracts with consultants, vendors, and service providers;Prepare various risk management reports;Develop, conduct, and present training on risk management topics; and Assist Risk Management Administrator in the improvement of the emergency management program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience working with risk management related programs and activities. Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, risk management, or closely related field. Substitution for Education: Four years of additional qualifying experience as noted above may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required for some positions. Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or comparable designation is highly desirable.
SELECTION PROCEDURE

The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process. Human Resources shall determine the examination steps to be used for this recruitment. The steps may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, practical examination, application screening, and/or oral board examination. One or more of these steps may be used and in any order. At the end of the testing process, candidates passing all of the examination steps will have their names placed on a Limited Duration eligibility list. The list is valid for six months and may be extended up to an additional six months at the request of the hiring department. The list may be used to fill future limited duration positions in the classification. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the examination process. All applicants will be notified of the results of the review process. Successful candidates not currently employed in regular status by the District must pass a pre-employment physical examination to be considered for appointment.
