Genetic Counselor – Oncology Company: Sinai Hospital of Baltimore Location: Baltimore, MD Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM About the Role Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is seeking a skilled and compassionate Genetic Counselor – Oncology to join our Cancer Institute team. In this role, you will help patients and their families understand inherited cancer risks, guide decision-making around genetic testing, and provide ongoing support throughout their care journey. You will work closely with clinical and research teams while contributing to advancements in cancer genetics. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Counseling Conduct comprehensive family and medical history assessments at each patient session Perform intake screenings, including pedigree analysis and evaluation of hereditary cancer risk Provide education on genetic conditions, testing options, and implications Guide patients in making informed decisions regarding genetic testing Offer emotional support to patients and their families Coordinate care across multiple specialties to support patient treatment plans Communication & Documentation Prepare detailed reports for referring providers, including risk assessments, counseling summaries, and medical recommendations Maintain accurate patient records and program documentation Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times Program Support & Reporting Maintain key program statistics (e.g., number of consultations, referrals, procedures) Prepare reports for Cancer Institute leadership Support the ongoing development and organization of the genetics counseling program Clinical & Research Collaboration Provide expertise in selecting appropriate genetic tests based on patient history Collaborate with clinical research teams, contributing a patient-centered perspective Assist in specimen preparation and ensure compliance with hospital protocols Adhere to all infection control and safety guidelines Patient Experience Deliver care with empathy, professionalism, and respect Foster a supportive and trusting environment for patients and families Ensure a consistently high standard of service and patient satisfaction Qualifications Required Experience 3–5 years of experience in genetic counseling, preferably in oncology Education Master of Science in Genetic Counseling or related field (preferred) Licensure & Certification Certified Genetic Counselor (required) Current Maryland Genetic Counselor License or eligibility to obtain licensure Why Join Sinai Hospital of Baltimore?
