This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $46,134.40 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5. Future Salary Increases - - June 2026 – 4.77% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board 1.27% Market Adjustment) - - June 2027 – 4.27% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board 1.27% Market Adjustment) Cashiers perform teller services and fiscal related functions such as receiving, verifying, posting, and accounting for monies, checks, money orders, credit cards, County warrants, and deposits from County offices, and other negotiable instruments. Cashiers also answer questions and inquiries at the public counter and telephone; identify, post, and reconcile tax intercept and vendor payments; provide courteous, high-quality service to members of the public; update account information to support collection activity; gather facts, negotiate and set up payment plans; compile and record financial transactions, daily statistical information, and daily statistical information for special projects. Willing and able to work at multiple locations throughout the County. Hiring Process and Timeline:The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.i. Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. ii. Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.iii. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies. Minimum Qualifications 1. Two (2) years of cashiering, bank teller, or cash vault teller experience or other similar cashier/teller experience; OR, 2. Two (2) years of experience as a bookkeeper, account clerk, statistical clerk, or other closely related title. NOTES:Previous experience must have included interaction with the public, in which cash handling responsibilities were performed. Previous experience must have included receiving large sums of currency, scrutinizing negotiable instruments, balancing daily receipts and posting payments. The successful completion of at least six (6) semester units or nine (9) quarter units of college level coursework in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field may substitute for up to one (1) year of the experience requirements stated above. Experience limited to serving as a cashier in a fast-food chain or similar establishment is not considered qualifying. Paid experience in performing rapid and accurate cash handling duties is highly desirable. In addition to work experience, if qualifying with completed coursework, a copy of your college degree/transcripts MUST be submitted at the ATTACHMENTS section of the online job application. The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a nine (9) month employment list based upon scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
