Assists Pharmacist in processing and compounding prescriptions and other drug orders. Pulls prescribed medication from shelf, enters medication charges into the computer, restocks pharmacy automation shelves, and handles telephone inquiries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assists pharmacists as directed, including filling orders and preparing labels. Coordinates with healthcare team to address pharmacy related concerns. Clarifies orders for all types of medications, documents pertinent information in a clear, complete, concise and organized manner. Complies with Federal and State statutes, rules, and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy. Prepares and makes deliveries to patient care areas and ancillary units. Retail - Processes patient charges for pharmaceuticals as required. Replenishes medicine supply carts/automated dispensing devices; ensures that the pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals. Compounds, labels, and packages pharmaceuticals. Counts, packages, and labels unit doses and fills routine orders for inspection by Pharmacists. Enters or retrieves data from established computer files. Maintains competencies as designated by Department of Pharmacy. Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards. - Performs related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. EXPERIENCE: None required. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as Technician Trainee. Pharmacy Technician licensure obtained within one year of hire. Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and procedures and regulations involving the administering of medications. - Knowledge of medicine terminology. - Skill in compounding and processing prescriptions. - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. - Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. - Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. - Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply basic algebraic concepts. - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
