The Coordinator 2 is responsible for school-level financial accuracy compliance and accountability, such as cash handling, inventory management, and deposits at all schools through audit readiness, regulatory reporting, training, and internal controls. This role ensures that all HISD Nutrition Services programs operate in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including SBP, NSLP, ASCP, CACFP, FFVP, and SSO/ SFSP. This is a hands-on, field position that will be traveling to all HISD schools. Success in this position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to dynamic environments. The Coordinator 2 must demonstrate strong communication and leadership abilities, as well as a commitment to ethical conduct and the district’s mission to provide safe, healthy, and equitable nutrition services. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Financial Accountability – Leads internal controls with audits and training for financial accuracy and cash handling at all schools. They oversee the accuracy and integrity of cash handling processes, verify timely and complete deposit submissions, and reconcile inventory records to prevent loss and improve accountability .. Compliance – Ensure full compliance with USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) regulations for all school nutrition programs .. FFVP – Support the grant funded Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program through training, communication, and financial reporting .. Department Reports – Reading, interpreting, and creating reports and data to assist in program analysis and school-level finance compliance metrics. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 5. Customer service – Supporting the department with training and questions related to compliance and accountability .. Oversight - Serves as a critical liaison between the Nutrition Services department and individual school sites, fostering a culture of financial stewardship and operational excellence .. Cross-Functional - Cultivating strong relationships with school principals, cafeteria managers, and other stakeholders, providing expert guidance and support. Their proactive approach to audit readiness includes designing and monitoring internal controls, conducting periodic compliance assessments, and ensuring documentation meets the highest standards for regulatory inspections .. Travel to schools and district locations (approx. 15% of the time) ensuring consistent application of best practices in financial procedures, inventory controls, and regulatory compliance .. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field; School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credentials preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE - At least 3-5 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district. - School nutrition program administration, with demonstrated expertise in federal compliance and audit processes. SKILL AND/ OR REQUIRED LICENSING/ CERTIFICATION - Microsoft Office Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in school nutrition POS systems. TX-UNPS, Primero. Edge, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
