Responsible for supporting Process Chemistry and Engineering operations within the Pharmaceutical Products Group - API at AbbVie Lake County. The Lab Manager will work directly with organizing laboratory spaces, managing chemical and equipment inventories, and assisting department chemists in optimizing lab usage. The incumbent should possess working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as HPLC and apply this expertise to maintain efficient laboratory operations and support ongoing research activities. Responsibilities:Maintain laboratories in clean, safe, and functioning state. Transition the labs to be more efficient using the principles of 5 S. Maintain department shared instruments, including UPLC and LCMS systems. Ensure they are in working order through periodic routine maintenance. Compile and maintain an inventory of active equipment and instruments. Schedule and organize repairs on broken instruments. Assist in relocation of equipment and belongings during ongoing lab renovations. Manage laboratory equipment and chemical inventories including organizing periodic clean-outs and chemical disposal events. Participate and lead lab safety walkthroughs and manage any action issues that arise. Coordinate routine maintenance of isolators and other potent handling equipment and supplies of personal protective equipment for R 14 potent lab. Develop and maintain inventory system and periodic defrost cycles for department freezers. Serve as a point of contact for IT, Calibration, Instrumentation Concierge and Facilities teams. Submit and manage service requests for said departments. Coordinate installation and calibration of new equipment and instrumentation, along with decommissioning of old items. Create work aids for operating equipment and train new users. Promote and enforce safe work practices in the laboratories. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s in chemistry or related field with laboratory experience. Working knowledge of HPLC is highly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and multitasking skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Qualifications. Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education. Theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out job functions.
