Position Information Title Voting & Civic Action Ambassador Position Description MRISJ Overview:The mission of the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice (MRISJ) is to build knowledge about social justice, to develop skills for advancing social justice through individual and collective action, and to serve as a catalyst for actualizing Bridgewater State University’s commitment to social justice. Position Overview. The MRISJ is seeking to hire up to 6 students to serve as Voting and Civic Action Ambassadors (VCAA) for the 26-27 academic year. Together with MRISJ staff and the Newman Civic Fellow, VCAA’s will build and enhance MRISJ’s civic action portfolio of student led activities and events. The VCAA will serve as an ambassador for on campus civic action work including voter education and voter registration events and other events that educate students on advocacy strategies on their campus and in their local communities. VCAA’s will be supported by a peer leader, the Newman Civic Fellow, and MRISJ staff members. Roles & Responsibilities Design and implement voter education and voter registration events, listed below, on campus for peers. Voter Registration & Education Tables, 4 annual Civic Holidays Events (National Voter Registration Day, National Voter Education Week, Vote Early Day, Election Hero Day) Constitution Day Voting Plan Workshops Support and help to design and facilitate civic action programs and opportunities for the BSU community. (Examples include: Vote. Fest, Advocacy Fair, Hot Topics and Empower Hour) Presentations and facilitate conversations in workshops such as Activate the Advocate and other civic action workshops for college peers Assist and support MRISJ sponsored off campus events with a civic action focus (Examples include: MA State House Visits, Advocacy Art Exhibits, Museums) Serve as student representatives for BSU’s Civic Action Plan planning group facilitated by the MRISJ. Co-create a joint VCAA poster to include in the Spring 2027 Student Art & Research Symposium ( St. ARS) Meet regularly and communicate consistently with MRISJ staff supervisors for guidance. Maintain up to date and accurate documentation of work performed and tasks completed including timesheets, journals and work plan updates. Attend and actively participate in all scheduled trainings, workshops and meetings for VCA - As and all MRISJ student employees. Represent the MRISJ in various capacities across campus to provide a student’s perspective of the work of the MRISJ, including but not limited to, staffing informational tables or events, presenting to classes or students clubs, and sharing about their experience with small or large groups. Other duties as assigned. Schedule information You will be required to attend MRISJ Student Employee meetings on Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:00 pm. (specific dates will be provided in advance) You will be expected to work 8-10 hours a week throughout the academic year Preferred Qualifications To succeed in this role, you will need: Some interest and/or experience with voter engagement or advocacy programming. Comfort and experience with public speaking to individuals, small and large groups. 8-10 hours of availability within the hours of 9 am-5 pm Monday-Friday. Ability and desire to work on a team and contribute creativity. Demonstrated passion for social justice and civic engagement along with a steadfast commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced, nonprofit environment. Strong oral and written communication skills to convey ideas and information with students, staff, and community organizations. Strong time management skills and ability to self-motivate and work independently once provided instruction. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Requirements Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at Bridgewater State University in good standing for both fall 2026 and spring 2027. Positions may be contingent upon additional background checks as requested by community organizations to adhere to each organization’s protocols. Availability to meet on some Thursday evenings, 5-7 pm Physical Demands Responsibilities may include activities such as: standing for varying periods of time transporting materials using rolling carts setting up and breaking down table displays and materials engaging with students in busy campus environments Appropriate accommodations will be made on an individual basis to support access to the role.
