This position is responsible for supporting Fleet Services and Transit operations through the cleaning, servicing, and basic maintenance of City vehicles and facilities. Duties include washing and detailing the exterior and interior of transit buses, performing routine servicing tasks, assisting with minor repairs, and maintaining accurate service records. The position also supports vehicle movement, parts and supply management, and facility upkeep to ensure operational readiness and efficiency. Hours of work: M-F - 1:00 - 9:30 p.m. or 1:30 – 10:00 p.m., and 4 hours on alternating Saturdays. Experience, Education, and Skills:Minimum Requirements:High School diploma or GED required. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in basic mechanical repair of vehicles. Bloodborne pathogen certification within three (3) months of employment. OR - Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,AND - Possession of a valid driver’s license. Preferred:Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in vehicle maintenance, fleet operations, construction, or a related field preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and servicing practices. Knowledge of safety procedures related to shop environments, equipment operation, and fueling. Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials used in fleet and facility maintenance. Skill in operating hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment. Skill in safely operating cars, light trucks, vans, and other assigned vehicles. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to operational needs in a timely manner. Ability to maintain accurate basic records related to inspections, service, and maintenance support activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and internal customers. Ability to provide professional service when interacting with employees, vendors, and the public. Essential Functions:Washes and details the exterior and interior of City buses and fleet vehicles to maintain cleanliness and service standards. Performs basic repairs, including replacing lights and other minor components. Checks and replaces fluids, including oil, coolant, and other essential systems as needed. Maintains accurate service and maintenance records in accordance with departmental procedures. Retrieves parts and supplies and assists with inventory and materials management. Transports, delivers, and picks up vehicles for repair, servicing, or operational needs. Cleans and maintains fleet and transit facilities, including shops, yards, and fueling areas. Assists mechanics and technicians with routine maintenance and minor service tasks. Operates tools, equipment, and City vehicles in the performance of assigned duties. Responds to operational needs in a timely and efficient manner to support service delivery. Follows all applicable safety procedures, City policies, and regulatory requirements. Provides support during special projects, emergencies, weather events, and other operational needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: N/ A - Travel - Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.
