The Broward County Transportation Department (BCT), a public transportation agency under the Broward County Board of Commissioners based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers fixed-route, paratransit, community shuttle, and micro transit services within Broward County, as well as certain services to the neighboring counties. In addition, BCT will implement other modes of transit to become a multimodal agency with commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit and high-frequency bus service to our transit network. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Superintendent of Transportation. General Description. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Transit garage and coach system. Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college from an accredited college or university or technical trade school. Requires four (4) years in transit maintenance with supervisory experience or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses Required. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment. May require valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements (with No Restrictions) based on area of assignment. Preferences. EPA 608 (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F (608) Federal License for Handling Refrigerants)EPA 609 Certification. ASE Certification in A 3 Manual Transmission, A 4 Steering and Suspension, A 5 Brakes, or A 7 ACOSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.178 Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklift Compliance)1 or more years Maintenance Management Software (Asset Works or comparable) experience 1 or more years Time & Attendance (Kronos or comparable) experience 1 or more years experience working in a supervisory capacity in a union environment and/or union negotiation 1 or more years transit electric vehicle operation or maintenance experience 1 or more years farebox maintenance/repair or automotive paint/body maintenance/repair experience Technical Trade School Program Certification, Associate Degree, or higher in field of study related to the area of assignment SCOPE OF WORK Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Manages the day to day operation of the garage; monitors road calls, attendance, overtime, parts needed, repairs on buses, safety concerns and any other issues that come up on a daily basis. Administers different contracts for the agency including authorizing invoices for payment; approves p-card purchases of subordinates; attends various meetings (staff, supervisors, component manufacturers, bus manufacturer, safety, other division needs, pre-bids for projects, computer software, vendors, other county agencies, FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation), FTA (Federal Transit Administration). Writes various reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually; analyzes different reports to gather data to forecast future repairs; assists in writing technical specifications for new buses, specifications for new shop equipment as well as expiring contracts. Inspects the shop and work load and debriefs supervisor for amount of work completed and concerns he/she may have; meets with maintenance staff, if there is an issue with parts, assignments, instructions or other issues.
