About this Opportunity Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for an Engineering Inspector to join our Engineering Department. The Engineering Inspector is responsible for performing technical fieldwork inspecting County Engineering Department projects. Work includes:Inspecting construction projects involving water, sewer, stormwater, and pump stations to ensure compliance with local, County, State, and Federal requirements. Maintaining accurate project files to include all relevant and important project related documents. Preparing inspection reports, progress reports, and maintaining a project logbook. Reviewing and approving plans, specifications, details, and shop drawings. Witnessing and approving system pressure testing and ensuring documented results are in project file. Assisting with water main bacteriological testing and ensuring documented laboratory reports are in project file. Reviewing plans and specifications for adherence with County requirements. The Engineering Inspector must exercise initiative, independent judgment, and pay close attention to detail in completing assignments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise considerable tact, courtesy, and firmness when dealing with property owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and the public is required. The Engineering Inspector reports directly to the Engineering Services Deputy Director. Education and Experience An associate degree AND seven (7) years of experience in engineering related field inspections; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Other requirements include:the ability to review and understand engineered plansfamiliarity with computers and tablet devicesdemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)valid NC or SC driver license Physical Requirements. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including calculators, copiers, telephones, basic hand tools and equipment, radios, and motor vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Work is mainly performed outdoors in all types of weather with some office work included.
