The Victim Advocate delivers a system of support to crime victims through notification and information about the criminal justice processes and makes referrals to other social services agencies. This position will provide assistance to victims and witnesses in your assigned caseload, working closely with prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, as needed. The Victim Advocate will be one of three advocates who will work as a team in providing victim services for the District Attorney's office. Essential Duties This list is provided for reference and is not all inclusive:The ability to empathize with victims and families. The ability to handle a high stress environment and maintain effective personal emotional coping skills. Work well with others and make independent decisions based on each individual situation. Notifies victims of their rights and assists in applying for compensation under the State Crime Victim's Compensation Act. Assists victims who visit our office for a Protective Order and determines whether we forward it to a prosecutor or if a referral to another agency is necessary. Communicates with law enforcement agencies that present cases to this office. Communicate with victims affected by a criminal case. Provide victims required information while maintaining case integrity. Prepares correspondence to victims and State agencies in regard to criminal cases. Prepares reports to the State Crime Victims' Compensation Act. Other duties as may be assigned by Administrator or designee. Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:District Attorney office procedures are helpful, but not required. Knowledge of the Court Systems and Law Enforcement is helpful, but not required. Ability to operate computer systems, office machines and possess effective communication skills (bi-lingual is preferred).
