This class performs research and technical data gathering, dissemination, storage, sharing, and retrieval; seeks out criminal intelligence information for intensive background checks; and coordinates information sharing with other appropriate agencies. Provides real time actionable data to deputies and investigators pertaining to criminal investigations. This class is considered essential personnel and available for on-call support outside of regular business hours or work schedule.
Examples of Duties
Seeks out intelligence information for intensive background checks by reviewing and researching public documents, newspapers, arrest reports, assorted law enforcement publications, the Internet, and the Intranet to determine criminal history, demographics, location, utilities, relatives, possible associates, and any other related critical information. Studies crime and profile suspects, which includes: analyzing crime data; detecting and communicating crime patterns; disseminating information regarding anticipated crimes; links and charts suspects to criminal organizations or events; creates visual work products such as link analysis and visual investigative analysis charts; developing verbal presentations; preparing and presenting detailed graphical presentations and briefings to share organized facts and statistics; and/or, performing other related activities. Locates, examines, and determines photographs to utilize for photo lineups. Reviews, analyzes and retrieves phone calls made by inmates and burns to computer disc to aid multiple agencies in their respective investigations. Gathers, researches, organizes, and analyzes information; obtains and inserts photos and images; writes comprehensive materials; edits and distributes time-sensitive intelligence bulletins. Gathers and researches information from various sources to locate or identify subjects. Researches State requirements for requesting driver's license photos and information; composes correspondence to request applicable photographs. Utilizes state-of-the-art technology to assist in active criminal investigations. Provides real time actionable data to responding to law enforcement during active criminal investigations. Assists with analyzing digital databases and enhancing digital images for criminal investigations. Assists in large scale projects or active real time investigations. Typical Qualifications
Associate degree or two-year technical certificate and up to one year of clerical/administrative assistant work, including proficiency in Microsoft office suites; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. License and Certification Requirements:Able to obtain FCIC/ NCIC certification within six months of hire. Able to obtain 40-hour Basic Analytical Techniques course within six months of hire. Knowledge of:Proper grammar and spelling. Business correspondence formatting. Research methods. Criminal profiling techniques and methods. Investigative techniques. Lineup procedure. Skills in:Conducting research. Preparing a variety of business correspondence. Preparing lineup photographs. Using a computer and related software applications. Analyzing data. Giving presentations. Speaking in public. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Supplemental Information
Positions in this class typically require: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to travel.
