Job Description / Essential Elements:Title: Athletic Director (Teacher on Special Assignment- TOSA) Reports to: Site Principal Salary Schedule Range: Depends on Experience (Highest placement would be at Class III, Step 13 of the Teacher Salary Schedule- available online in the Human Resources section of the District website). Annual stipends for a Master's and Doctorate degrees. This position is a special assignment. The employee's position classification remains that of a classroom teacher. This assignment is subject to change consistent with the District's authority to direct and assign employees under all applicable laws. Benefits: Eligible to participate in District health, vision, dental, and term life insurance.= Contract Days: 200 Purpose of Position: To provide for the overall leadership and coordination among the various sports to facilitate programs that provide worthwhile learning experiences for students. Maintain an environment that focuses on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional well-being prevention and implements practices that ensure equitable outcomes for all students. Engage in professional learning that enhances the achievement of all students, particularly socio-economically, culturally, ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse student populations. Ensure that classroom resources are utilized in a way that addresses the needs of our most vulnerable learners. Commit to carrying out school goals and objectives so that all learners are prioritized. Accountability Abide by the California Education Code, the Administrative Code of California, and the policies and regulations of the Santa Barbara Unified School District. Implement with fidelity the instructional program to meet the needs of a socio-economically, culturally, ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse student population. Implement instruction and student supports based on student achievement data. Review the results of assessments and implement interventions to ensure that all students meet grade-level proficiencies. Support the achievement of all students, in particular, a heightened level of focus on socio-economically, culturally, ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse student populations. Student-Centered Carry out the school's program expectations to meet the needs of all segments of the community. Provide opportunities for students to see their own background and experiences through the curriculum. Be aware and responsive to the individual needs of each student and family. Communicating important information to all students and families in the classes. Culture and Climate Establish and maintain high expectations for achievement and implement systematic supports using the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) so all students can achieve standards. Participate in family engagement programs Carry out the school's student behavior policies and procedures with an emphasis on addressing the disproportionality of the system's impact on specific student groups (i.e., students of color, students with disabilities, socio-economically disadvantaged). Assume responsibility before, during, and after school hours for the health, safety, and welfare of students. Maintain athletics as a safe space for students. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Functions: Provide leadership and oversight of the athletic program. Attends the athletic events of their school whenever possible Will work in conjunction with the Principal to supervise home and away events. Knows, understands, and demonstrates a knowledge of School Board Policy as it relates to the athletic program. Knows, understands, and demonstrates a knowledge of CIF rules that pertain to all aspects of the athletic program. Knows, understands, and demonstrates knowledge of Channel League rules that pertain to the conduct of the athletic program. Always sets the highest example of sportsmanship. Inspires good sportsmanship and requires good sportsmanship from all. Insures that all coaches are fully qualified to teach their sport and to effectively handle athletes. Is governed by the principle of what is best for the athletes at all times and is concerned with the health and safety of athletes at all times. Is concerned with the health and well-being of coaches at all times. Sees that every athlete meets the eligibility rules, and does not compromise the integrity of the rules. Insures that athletes meet all procedural requirements, such as having a physical, completing an emergency card, signing the athletic code, and securing insurance when needed, before competing in a contest. Insures that guests are welcomed and treated properly by the school staff, the athletes, the parents, and the public at all times. Always listened to both sides in a dispute before making a decision. Runs his/her office in a professional manner. Responsible for seeing that every coach is properly certified, including fingerprinting, tuberculosis testing, coaches' trainings, first aid, and CPR training. Schedules competitions with other schools and confirms the competitions with scheduling contracts. Establishes an athletic budget, in consultation with the principal, that is fair to all teams and observes Title 9 requirements. Works with the business office to see that all forms are filed and all funds are deposited in a timely manner. Oversees the fundraising activities of all teams to see that fundraisers are approved in advance by the Board of Education, and that what is sold is appropriate and complies with all district, state and federal rules. Works with Booster Groups to see that all district, state, and federal rules are known and followed. Provides all athletic coaches and all athletic booster groups with a copy of the District's Planning Guidelines for Co-Curricular Activities. Maintains an athletic facilities calendar that is up to-date, readily available for all to see, and allows fair access to all teams that need a facility for practice or a competition. Works with the principal and head coaches to fill coaching vacancies with the most qualified candidates. Works with the CIF liaison to schedule referees. Works with the equipment custodian to maintain inventory, to see that equipment is safe, and to purchase new equipment when needed. Develops community support by being visible and accessible to athletes, parents, and the community. Insures that all timers, scorers, announcers, ticket sellers and takers, security, and custodians are responsible adults who are scheduled in advance and meet their obligations. Works with the gardeners, the custodians, and the maintenance crews to prepare the physical plant for all sporting events. Responsible for seeing that outside lights are dimmed 15 minutes after an event ends as a means of encouraging spectators to leave. Responsible for seeing that all outside stadium lights are shut off no later than 11 p.m. Responsible for paying all entry fees to contests on time. Responsible for requesting transportation to all events in a timely manner. Responsible for sending schedules of sporting events to the media. Working Conditions & Physical Demands: Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time. Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter, and observing students. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal speech levels. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to carry up to 25 pounds. Moderate to high stress levels. Work is predominantly in a school environment. Climate is normal; occasional adverse weather conditions. Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff. Regular contact with parents, community members, and outside agency personnel. Abilities and Knowledge: Ability to contribute to co-construct a long-term vision for instructional practices to help teachers ensure students read, reason, and communicate for college-career readiness Deep familiarity with Physical Education standards and proficiencies Demonstrated pedagogical expertise Use data to inform instructional and program decisions in a cycle of inquiry Demonstrated capacity to integrate technology into instructional design and delivery Student-centered, growth mindset Ability to function as a lead learner for other adult learners. Required Qualifications: Must possess a valid California Single Subject credential, preferably in physical education, with an EL authorization.
