Bridge Summer Internship Program: The Bridge Internship is a joint program with Duke and North Carolina Central University. This summer internship invites 6 student participants into an 8-week summer residency to live in community across typical divides, develop practical life and leadership skills, reflect on purpose and meaning, and deepen their faith. Living together and working in the community, participants consider how matters of faith shape the way they might live meaningfully and with purpose in the world, while also developing practical life skills related to work, community, and a fulfilling personal life. Bridge Interns spend twenty-five hours per week working in a paid professional work placement suited to their academic and career interests. They also participate in assessments and training programs related to race, religion, conflict transformation, and personal strengths throughout their internship. Interns attend a Racial Justice Pilgrimage of Durham to learn about the history of Durham and the relationship between Duke and NCCU. Each week the Bridge Interns share a house meal together with the leaders of the program for group reflection based on readings for the program and other communal experiences. Additionally, each week the interns have a meal with leaders from the Durham community. Interns will also be encouraged to attend and participate in weekly gatherings within a local faith community.
