Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 M - We sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, simpler, easier, and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to be complementary to solar and wind power by evening out the peaks and valleys in production when the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing. With the reactor and energy storage output combined, the plant can produce more than 500 M - We of power. Job Summary: In this role, you will lead a multi-discipline team, of construction coordinators, to liaise between engineering and field operations and provide guidance on executing constructability plans. You will lead your team in making construction design decisions, interdisciplinary reviews, schedule build and validation to support the site construction team and project staffing. You will monitor construction performance and review deliverables and monitor the status of your individuals team members. You will use your expertise to improve Bechtel’s existing methods by initiating project assessments and implementing improvements. You will act as the subject matter expert for construction procedures, work processes, and automation tools used by construction and other functional organizations. You will participate in the design development process by providing constructability input, with a focus on improving construction safety and quality, while seeking to optimize cost and schedule. "This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership” #LI-CL 1 Major Responsibilities: - Lead a multi-disciplinary team of construction coordinators. - Develop constructability concepts and provide guidance to the design effort during the early phases of the project. - Participate in constructability reviews during the design process. - Collaborate with the development of construction procedures, plans, and strategy documents. - Work with the design teams to ensure requirements are incorporated into the design, layout, and specifications. - Participate in design development and suggest/implement economical construction details to be incorporated into design drawings and specifications, utilizing lessons learnt from other projects and construction best practices. - Monitor and track engineering action items critical to support construction activities. - Monitor the completeness of engineering and procurement deliverables to support the construction schedule. - Support establishment of logistics strategy with design and procurement teams. - Support construction schedule development. - Support Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (required on-site date) schedule optimization. - Represent construction in engineering and procurement schedule review meetings. - Utilize the plant design model to identify construction sequencing. - Drive consistency of engineering data to ensure compatibility with construction automation tools. - Participate in office and field meetings with project team members and client personnel, as required, e.g., project review meetings. - Identify potential problem areas or trends and work on total installed cost and continuous improvement issues. - Maintain communication with the field organization and office project team members regarding significant problem areas and potential solutions. - Perform and coordinate the construction review of engineering drawings and specifications. - Coordinate the construction review of vendor drawings, shop fabrication details, and erection procedures, on behalf of construction. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Nuclear Power Construction preferred. Thorough knowledge of a specific construction engineering discipline gained through a combination of related education and construction experience and a working knowledge of all other construction engineering disciplines. Broad-based knowledge of the function and interrelationships of field construction entities and operations. Knowledge of Bechtel Construction Nuclear Work Process Procedures. Understands and applies the requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes to area of responsibility. Knowledge of the impact and effect of using field automation tools. Knowledge of environmental compliance laws and requirements. Knowledge of government compliance standards. Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Philosophy. Knowledge of current industry standards.
