Under the direction of the Deputy Division Director, this position performs wildlife, conservation, and natural resources enforcement work. Work involves planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating law enforcement programs and activities, and supervising emergency management and homeland security operations in an assigned region. Supervises the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:% of Time. Essential Job Duties by Category 50%Law Enforcement Duties:Conducts and/or coordinates law enforcement patrols within the assigned region. Directs and analyzes the quality and effectiveness of law enforcement programs, activities and operations in an assigned region. Analyzes the training and development needs of subordinate staff. Collaborates with other Law Enforcement Division Senior Staff to identify and enact long-range goals, activities, and strategies to facilitate the efficient and effective enforcement of conservation and general law. Directs and/or coordinates enforcement efforts with other law enforcement agencies. Maintains knowledge of all relevant statutes, administrative codes, agency and division directives/policies, etc. Confers with local law enforcement, court officers, and state officials concerning department activities. Oversees, conducts, and monitors criminal and administrative investigations .0%Program or Position Specific Duties:Conducts, or assigns and supervises investigations into complaints received from personnel, the general public or other special investigations as needed or assigned. Reviews reports and other paperwork for accuracy. Implements, monitors, interpret and assess the effectiveness of administrative and operational policies and procedures for an assigned region. Plans and administers regional budgets .5%Supervisory Duties:Supervision of others to include onboarding, performance evaluations, personnel actions, time approvals, travel voucher approvals and offboarding tasks. Required to participate in supervisory training as assigned by Human Resources and/or divisional leadership. Directs personnel recruiting and hiring efforts in the region. Supervises multiple commissioned and/or non-commissioned personnel. Completes annual performance evaluations for subordinate employees. Approves staff promotions and transfers .%Marginal Job Duties:Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy. Experience:Four (4) years of experience at the rank of Lieutenant or above, or two (2) years as Captain or Assistant Commander. Licensure:Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Must possess a current license as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must posses a valid class “C” or higher Texas Driver’s License. NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certifications. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to Law Enforcement. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, Virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc) and/or Adobe products. Skill in assessing administrative problems and implementing appropriate solutions. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to staff and the public. Ability to interpret and apply state/federal statutes, laws, regulations and provisions of TPWD Code, Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, employees, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, members of the judicial and legislative branches of government and the general public. Ability to project future operational needs, continually improve efficiency of operations and prepare reports. WORKING CONDITIONS - Required to work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Required, as necessary or directed, to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and hours other than regularly scheduled with supervisor approval. Required to reside within 50 air miles of the Fort Worth Regional Office, 5400 Airport Freeway, Suite E, Fort Worth, TX 76117. Required to operate a state vehicle. Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays. Required to conform to dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures. Required to follow non-smoking policy in all state buildings and vehicles.
