PT Environmental Technician - Janitorial

The purpose of this position is to clean and provide janitorial services to City facilities on a part time basis not to exceed 29 hours. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Responsible for general cleanliness City facilities. Vacuums, sweeps, mops floors with proper cleaning solutions. Maintains supplies and equipment and ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities. Operates a mechanized floor buffers and floor cleaning machines. Communicates with supervisor and City employees about any maintenance issues and/or supply shortages or defective equipment. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, work orders, inventory sheets, time sheets, or other documentation of City facilities; forwards, retains, or files, as appropriate. Empties and ties-off trash and cleans bathrooms and common areas multiple times daily to ensure cleanliness standard. Cleans all interior glass, mirror surfaces, counter tops, and related surfaces. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS - Removes handprints from walls, doors, door frames, and applicable door and wall related surfaces. Operates soap and cleaning solution dispensers. Restocks all supplies (toilet tissue, foam soap, paper towels, garbage bags in garbage cans)Performs general maintenance of supply holders (replace or rehang dispensers)Remove gum, gum stains, tar spots, cobwebs. Performs other related duties as required, requested, or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; with six (6) months of janitorial experience preferred. Licenses or Certifications:Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: None. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of cleaning. Knowledge of customer service principles. Skill in gathering information before taking action. Skill in marshalling resources to get things done. Skill in finding common ground to solve problems. Skill in performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring. Skill in organizing. Ability to build rapport. Ability to listen. Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Ability to exercise judgment in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by well established procedures or sequences. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - The work is light work. The employee is frequently required to apply 10 pounds of force to move objects. The employee is occasionally required to exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally requires: balancing, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing voices and distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word and shouting to be heard above ambient noise, visual acuity in data/color/observations/operating equipment, and walking. Tasks may require the ability to: sit for extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work is performed in both an office setting and outdoors where performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature/weather extremes or traffic hazards. Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
