Social Media Analyst II is the journey level class in the Marketing and Social Media professional series. Incumbents at this level are well-rounded communications professionals with experience in all forms of digital media (social, video, web) as well as print materials, media relations, marketing, internal communication, and crisis communication. Positions in this class may be responsible for providing technical and functional direction and training to lower-level staff. This position is distinguished from the Marketing and Social Media Manager as the latter provides oversight and supervision of the City’s overarching communications strategy and marketing objectives. PRINCIPAL DUTIES (Illustrative Only) Develops, organizes, coordinates, and publishes engaging content for the City’s social media platforms, marketing campaigns, website, and other digital channels consistent with the core mission, vision, and values of the assigned department. Conducts research, collaborates with, and gathers information to build communications content for the assigned department; collaborates with team members at all levels of the organization. Fosters positive interaction between local government and the people it serves, by creating pieces that showcase the City’s programs and services; composes newsletters, updates websites, creates content for all digital communication channels, and collaborates on special marketing projects and events. Plans communications outreach and project-based marketing campaigns; measures work effectiveness by recording results and progress of communications activities. Uses native and third-party social media monitoring tools to evaluate content performance against key performance indicators and make recommendations to adjust tactics based on performance. Stays up to date with industry trends, designs, and emerging social media platforms to ensure content remains relevant and engaging. Participates in photo and media events, sometimes after hours, to help create relevant content; supports annual awards ceremonies and other special events as required; maintains City assigned photography and video equipment. Performs quality checks on all communications materials and edits as needed, using strong attention to detail and proofreading skills. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures; maintains availability to work after regular work hours/weekends as events, meetings and program needs dictate. Represents the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public. Fosters an environment that embraces integrity, service, inclusion, and collaboration. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:Principles and practices of integrated communications strategies; various social media platforms and digital marketing trends;Collaboration strategies and best practices when effectively communicating and working with peers, supervisors, subordinates, and people to whom service is provided; Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, policies and ordinances;The core mission, vision, and values of the assigned department and overarching City;Principles and methodologies of storytelling, with the ability to convey complex information in a way that is relevant, and in clear and compelling language;Digital media platforms, applications, and editing software commonly used in business; and. Computers systems and related equipment, hardware, and software programs applicable to area of assignment. Skill in:Supporting, maintaining, and adhering to strategic communications plans and marketing endeavors; Managing complex projects; planning and executing project work, monitoring timelines, following established strategy plans, and operating within budget;Producing desired work outcomes with consideration for quality, quantity, and timeliness objectives; Building professional relationships with internal and external customers; communicating and sharing information effectively, both orally and in writing, with peers, supervisors, subordinates, and people to whom service is provided;Working independently and within cross-functional teams, contributing as a team member, and treating co-workers, subordinates, and customers with respect;Demonstrating exceptional writing skills with a focus on quality, precision, and attention to detail;Exemplifying a demeanor of flexibility, enthusiasm, creativity, professionalism, and diplomacy; and. Interpreting and applying complex rules, regulations, policies, laws, and ordinances. Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in marketing, communications, graphic design, journalism, or a closely related field. Experience: Social Media Analyst I: Two years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field in local government or a corporate communication environment, creating social media and other multimedia content for digital and non-digital platforms. Social Media Analyst II: Three years of progressively responsible full-time, professional experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field in local government or a corporate communication environment that includes public relations, communications, journalism, writing, and/or marketing. Qualifying Substitution Patterns: Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Marketing and Social Media Analyst I/ II with the City of Stockton in areas such as marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, graphic design may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis. EDUCATIONEXPERIENCE - Marketing and Social Media Analyst I Marketing and Social Media Analyst II Bachelor’s degree (4 years)2 years 3 years 90 semester units (3 years)3 years 4 years. Associate degree/60 units (2 years)4 years 5 years 30 semester units (1 year)5 years 6 years. High School Diploma/ GED 6 years 7 years. Additional Notes:Experience MUST be directly related to the role’s responsibilities. Relevant education and professional experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must demonstrate equivalent competencies and skills through a combination of their documented education and/or work history. Physical/ Mental Abilities:Mobility - Frequent sitting for long periods of time while operating a keyboard; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking for long periods of time;Lifting - Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds or less;Vision - Constant use of overall visual capabilities; ability to read and produce printed material and information displayed on a visual display terminal;Dexterity - Frequent repetitive motion, typing, and writing;Hearing/ Talking - Ability to detect specific noises, proper equipment operation; ability to understand what people are saying in general conversation in person, over the telephone, and in group settings;Special Requirements - May require weekend and/or evening work;Emotional/ Psychological – Varies based on position assignment. Constant concentration and decision making; frequent public contact; occasional to moderate requirement to travel, and perform work independently or participate in difficult interpersonal interactions, groups settings, crime scenes, or other collaboration activities;Environmental Conditions – Occasional to frequent exposure to noise, outdoor conditions; occasional to moderate risk of exposure to hazardous materials, dirt, dust, smoke, fumes, poor ventilation, and indoor cold/heat; and. Working Conditions – Typically moderately quiet but may be loud at times and at some locations, which consist of both indoor and outdoor sites.
