Provide diversion activities and conversations that are distracting and therapeutic. Engage in age specific play activities that are distracting and therapeutic (i.e. board games, card games, painting, reading); reinforce positive behavior. Provide support as outlined in the plan of care. Assist in activities of daily living, including but not limited to washing, toileting, position changes and assistance with meals. Keep room clean and tidy . Maintain a calm environment. Act in the role of Patient Service Associate when cross-trained and no safety attendants needed. Adhere to principles of pediatric safety to ensure a safe environment for patients through use of handrails, seatbelts, patient accessibility to call bell, etc. Maintain standard precautions as ordered for patient. Report safety hazards to staff (i.e. broken furniture/broken equipment). Report pertinent patient information and call for assistance if the patient develops destructive behaviors i.e. pulling lines. With RN establish priorities for individual patient; communicate with team members to establish priority tasks. Maintain regular communication with RN related to assigned duties and patient behavior; perform activities within prescribed scope and seek clarification when needed. Confer with RN when confronted with unfamiliar patient care issue.
