The City of Portland is currently hiring multiple Environmental Systems Maintenance Technicians to join the Portland Bureau of Transportation. ESMT's are responsible for investigating using CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) inspections, while using and maintaining robotic equipment in the sanitary sewer and storm water collection systems; and locating, inspecting, and documenting findings regarding the condition, maintenance and repair needs. What you'll get to do:Perform sewer system inspections. Respond to sewage releases and flooding events. Coordinate and lead the work activities of a crew. Investigate reported illegal materials, system leaks, flooding and plugged culverts or ditches. Make entry into confined spaces and may include emergency responses to sewer releases and snow and ice emergencies. Train other employees in proper methods and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining a sewer system and in the equipment and safety procedures used for inspection of sewer lines. Collect water samples from raw, semi-processed, or processed water, industrial wastewater, or water from other sources to assess pollution problems. Install and maintain data collection instrumentation. Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, pumps, GPS equipment, and equipment used for the inspection of sewer lines. Operate various asset management programs such as Infor, ArcGIS and Granite Net. Perform basic calculations and computer data entry. Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required. To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:Ability to operate and maintain technical equipment such as CCTV (closed circuit television inspection equipment), locating devices and other related inspection equipment. Ability to provide leadership and/or training others. Experience utilizing computer software to complete reports. Experience recognizing and describing defects in wastewater/stormwater/sewer collection system collection systems. Experience reading instructions and interpreting quarter-section maps utilizing GIS, as-built maps. Experience locating problems, using specially designed equipment, and mark where digging must occur to reach damaged sanitary and stormwater sewer assets. Applicants must also possess: A valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Possess or obtain a class "A" CDL within 9 months from date of hire (in-house training available)Ability to pass a Prehire Evaluation that may require a medical exam, screenings and physical capacities test (PCT), after an offer of employment has been made and accepted.
