Parks Technicians play an important role in keeping parks and park facilities clean and safe for the community to enjoy. They do a full range of maintenance activities to care for park landscapes, irrigation systems, restrooms, outdoor furnishings, playgrounds, and a variety of other tasks related to park maintenance. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. As a Parks Technician your duties will include but are not limited to:Cleaning restrooms. Clearing litter and garbage from parks and open spaces. Reporting park rule violations using online services. Placing work orders for repairs beyond the scope of the position using Micro. Main. Working daily in a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks. Performing routine landscape maintenance on a frequent and regular basis. Being able to work safely in a heavily used park and regional trails system. Maintaining park furnishings, amenities, and recreation facilities including bathrooms. Cleaning, blowing, and pressure washing sidewalks, and other hard surfaces. Maintaining good working relationships with supervisor, crew leader, other employees, bureau partners, and the public to ensure everyone has safe, positive, and lawful enjoyment of the park. Exhibiting a professional attitude and behavior when representing Portland Parks and Recreation. - Starting Wage for this position is $30.40 hourly; $33.53 hourly after 1 year of employment. To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position: 1. Ability to work effectively with coworkers in a diverse workforce, and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from other employees and the public. 2. Skill in safe and effective operation of landscaping and maintenance tools and equipment. 3. Ability to work outdoors in all seasons for extended periods and during unfavorable weather conditions. 4. Ability to lead diverse groups of skilled and unskilled employees and volunteers in a variety of outdoor maintenance projects. 5. Knowledge of irrigation repair and pesticide application .. Knowledge and experience of routine cleaning and maintenance of buildings, restrooms, and grounds. Candidates must also possess:A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain a public pesticide applicator’s license within 6 months of hire. Ability to pass a Pre-placement physical exam and physical capacities test. Ability to pass a criminal background check
