The award-winning Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for highly motivated, team-oriented and enthusiastic individuals who have a desire to provide customer service and assistance with front desk operations; program/activity/user support; clerical support; custodial, building maintenance and security support. The Specialist - Welcome Team Services is a member of the Recreation and Parks staff team that works together to develop innovative service delivery methods and programs focused on quality partnerships, service to our community and achieving successful results for youth, teens and families. This position will work under the general supervision of the Recreation Program & Facility Coordinator. This individual must be able to work in an extremely fast paced work environment, with a desire to work in a highly diverse recreation center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide customer service and assistance with front desk operations. Provide community resource materials. Understand policies and procedures to ensure safe environment exists for all participants; maintain order, complete required reports. Assist the Program Assistant II, III and/or Recreation Facility Coordinator with duties. Attend all staff development /training programs and staff meetings. Provide assistance to rental groups. Check in participants at front desk. Collect fees and secure money in safe. Open and close facility. Assist in data entry and program evaluations. Promote programs to the community through City website, brochure, and other communications. Other duties as assigned
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Education. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience 18 years of age or older. Previous successful experience working with the public and providing customer service. Cash handling experience. Previous experience working with youth and teens. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Ability to interact with teens in a caring, responsible and professional manner. Ability to maturely respond to any emergency or incident that may arise. Ability to communicate effectively and respond with tact and courtesy. Ability to maintain order and security. Ability to effectively work with youth, teens, adults and families. Ability to make rational decisions based on established policy and procedure. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction. Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement. Desired Qualifications 21 years of age or older. Coursework, classes or training leading to a college degree in Recreation, Education, Human Services, or related field. Previous experience overseeing seasonal staff. Experience tracking, data management, data entry. Knowledge of and a thorough understanding of Teen Zone activity policies. Knowledge of the facility, building and outdoor areas. Two years' experience of cash handling experience. Experience using Rec Trac scheduling software or registration software. Experience working in a municipal or recreation facility. Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese. Working Conditions. This is a seasonal, non-benefited position that will work an an average of 15-38 hours per week. Works shifts are primarily in the evening hours Monday - Friday from 1 pm-9 pm and possible weekend shifts available between 9-7 pm; may work daytime shifts during week. Morning mix by Fusion program, 5:30 am-10 am. Office environment; exposure to computer screens; working closely with others, frequent interruptions. Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision and speech required. Work with irate customers. Must have de-escalation skills and abilities.
