Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality NDE Examiner/ Inspector to work on our Quality team. Our team works a 9 x 80 schedule located out in Idaho Falls, Idaho with r every other Friday off. The Quality Examiner / Inspector on the Fabrication Quality team is a hands-on technical specialist responsible for performing precision dimensional inspections and nondestructive examinations (NDE) across INL's nuclear and non-nuclear fabrication facilities. The primary focus of this role is dimensional verification using Zeiss CMM equipment and associated software, supported by proficiency in manual precision tools and a strong working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y 14.5. In addition to performing examinations, this role contributes to process improvement, procedure accuracy, and the development of less experienced NDE personnel. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:Dimensional Inspection and Nondestructive Examinations. Perform precision dimensional inspections of machined and fabricated parts using Zeiss CMM equipment (Calypso software preferred) and manual tools including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges with granite plate setups. Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y 14.5 to verify conformance to engineering drawings and tolerance specifications. Conduct nondestructive examinations using certified methods, which may include Visual Examination (welding), Liquid Penetrant, Ultrasonic A-Scan, Bubble Leak Testing, XRF, Magnetic Particle, and/or Radiography. Operate advanced examination equipment; interpret, evaluate, and disposition examination output data against applicable acceptance criteria. Review materials and equipment received or fabricated against purchase and design specifications to confirm acceptability. Perform in-process and final inspections, documenting all results thoroughly in accordance with quality program procedures. Audits, Surveillance, & Process Improvement. Verify compliance of items and processes with quality program procedures and applicable codes (ASME Section III, B 31. X, Section VIII, AWS, etc.). Perform technical reviews of company-level inspection procedures to ensure accuracy and currency. Interface with engineers and manufacturing personnel to communicate examination results and support process improvement efforts. Review and provide input on inspection plans, including applicable methods, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements. Training & Personnel Development. Mentor less experienced inspectors, sharing technical knowledge and reinforcing quality standards in day-to-day work. Present training activities in support of inspector certification programs. General Responsibilities. Operate material handling equipment (forklift and overhead crane) as required to support examination activities. Maintain all required certifications, qualifications, and training per individual qualification plans. Pursue ongoing professional development relevant to NDE methods and dimensional inspection practices. Perform other duties as assigned Required:Level: 4 High School or equivalent and 6 years of related experience. Level: 5 High school or equivalent and 6 years of related experience. Graduation from high school or equivalency. Relevant experience commensurate with level. Per MCP-13425 and/or MCP-13426 Depending on work assignment, must be a US Citizen. Obtain and maintain the proper DOE clearance as required by the facility supported. As applicable, obtain and maintain all required job-related exam and position qualifications. Required quals based on title. Knowledge of the approved implementation of methods in which certified. Maintain INL Basic Inspector qualification and activities. Become certified as a Level II NDE examiner in two or more of the following NDE methods per MCP-13425 and/or MCP-13426: XRF Testing, Bubble Leak Testing, Visual Examination (welding), Liquid Penetrant Examination, Magnetic Particle. Examination, and/or Ultrasonic A-Scan Thickness Examination. Required - Advanced Nondestructive Examiner:Become certified as a Level II in two or more of the previous NDE methods and one or more of the following:Per MCP-13425: Radiography Examination, Ultrasonic Examination, Eddy Current Examination, Leak Testing Examination. Per MCP-13426: Dimensional Examiner. The ideal candidate will possess:Greater than 1,000 hours in examination/inspection experience with significant hours in precision dimensional activities. Experience with additional CMM platforms or software (Polyworks, PC-DMIS, Faro). Familiarity with CAD models for CMM programming purposes. ASME Y 14.5 GD&T Technician Level Certification. Level II certification in one or more advanced NDE methods: Radiography, Ultrasonic Examination, Eddy Current, or Leak. Testing. Code familiarity with ASME Section III, B 31. X, Section VIII, and/or AWS
