Pipe fit in shops, yards, buildings, tracks, and along right of ways. Employees must be able to meet and comply with the manufacturer's weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment. Primary Activities and Responsibilities. Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)Determine reasons for component or product failure by tracing the problem through standardized procedures. Interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling and installing sheet metal products. Installation of all types of plumbing fixtures (e.g. toilets, urinals, showers, sinks, and other fixtures)Installation of switch heaters. Set up and operate fabricating machines. Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe support, hoses, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating and sprinkling systems. Shape and modify metal material to enable assembly of components. Install and maintain refrigeration, air conditioning systems and steam and gas heating in shops, rail yards, and offices, including compressors, pumps, meters, hydraulic controls and piping. Operate material handling equipment, acetylene torches and electric and gas welding equipment. Repair and maintain other systems including, but not limited to snow melters, smoke pipe testing, compressed air, sand towers, roof, septic & sewer, fueling, washing, pumping, environmental and gas systems. Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager. Pay Rate. Training Rate- $37.25 (While attending REDI)$41.39/hour full rate upon reporting to assigned location. Training. You will attend two weeks of paid training at the Railroad Education & Development Institute in Atlanta, GA. CSX will pay for travel, lodging and meals as required by collective bargaining agreement. Selkirk, NY ONLY- This position shares a joint roster between the Mechanical, Facilities, and Signals Departments. Once hired and upon reporting to Selkirk, placement in a position will be determined by the union agreement seniority rule in which bids/awarded positions are based on seniority. When accepting an Electrician position, it’s important to understand that if you hold this position at Selkirk, you may hold a position in any of these three departments throughout your CSXT career: Mechanical Electrician works in a Locomotive Shop. Facilities Electrician covers road territory and travels. Signals Electrician-Switch Heater covers road territory and travels. Minimum Qualifications. High School Diploma/ GED 18 years of age or older. Valid Driver's License. Experience with blue print/schematic reading. One year of welding experienceOne year of plumbing experience. Preferred Qualifications. Four years of sheet metal and/or pipe fitting experience.
