Office Support Specialist 1 - General Sessions Traffic Court

This is a Non-Civil Service position located in the General Sessions Court. The Office Support Specialist 1 - General Sessions Traffic Court incumbent will work in the General Sessions Court Traffic School assisting individuals in signing up and paying for Traffic School classes by telephone or in person. The position will perform the more complex clerical and administrative duties that may require specialized skills and independent judgment in reviewing, processing, communicating and maintaining various records and information.
Typical Duties
Answer the department phone lines and direct all calls accordingly. Perform a variety of entry level clerical, administrative, and customer service duties requiring the use of independent judgment and critical thinking skills. Assist the public when they enter the Traffic School. Open, sort, and distribute correspondence. Create records and maintain files and information associated with the Traffic School. Register individuals for the Traffic School classes, take payments, and answer questions associated with Traffic School enrollment. Handle complaints and inquiries both in person and by telephone. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Director or Court Administrator. Comply with all procedures and policies as outlined in the General Sessions Court Personnel Manual.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of increasingly responsible clerical/administrative experience. LICENSES REQUIRED - Valid Driver License. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO 94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience handling financial transactions Proficiency in utilizing databases. Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite. Bilingual.
