The Security Officer 2 is a full time, Non-Civil Service position with the General Sessions Court which leads and participates in providing security and maintaining order when necessary for the General Sessions Court Docket. In this capacity, the incumbent patrols assigned areas to protect occupants, visitors, public property, buildings, and related facilities, etc. This position may include assignments, short term, or long term, to protect specific individuals or groups such as Judges, Commissioners, or others. - Resume attachment and two (2) references must be included with application to ensure consideration. Typical Duties
Maintains security and order in General Sessions courtrooms and anywhere General Sessions Court business is conducted. Working environment involves high risk with exposure to potentially dangerous and unusual situations and may require defending oneself or others against physical attack and he/she must be physically and mentally fit and prepared at all times. Receives general supervision and reports to the General Sessions Security Coordinator and Court Administrator. Assists with developing shift schedules for other security officers. Writes reports as needed by General Sessions courtrooms and anywhere General Sessions Court business is conducted. Gives directions and provides other information to employees and the public. Calls for police assistance as required.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High School Diploma and a minimum of five (5) years prior security experience. Prior supervisory experience is desirable. Required physical agility and psychological evaluation. LICENSE REQUIRED - Valid Drivers License. Handgun Permit and compliance with the conditions of the Metropolitan Government’s policy 6.7-1 covering employees who carry firearms as a requirement of the job. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO 94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice process. Knowledge of courtroom procedures. Knowledge and understanding of security techniques, defensive tactics, weapons safety, first aid and, CPR - Skill in handling emergency situations.
