Senior Data Engineer (Information Technology)Our Data Engineering team has an open Senior Data Engineer position! The team maintains a variety of data engineering platforms and systems, including Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, dbt, Git, and ION ETL (Pentaho). This Data Engineering role supports data-driven decision making and machine learning to help improve business processes and, ultimately, Colorado Springs Utilities' ability to deliver safe, reliable, and competitively priced utility services. If you have experience with data engineering and implementing and maintaining enterprise data management systems, preferably in an information technology setting, we want to hear from you! Please note that upon successfully completing probation (six months), this position offers a hybrid working arrangement (two days remote and three days onsite per week). You must live in the state of Colorado for this role. What Else Will You be Doing? Implementing and maintaining data engineering systems using Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, dbt, Git, and ION ETL (Pentaho)Developing Fabric pipelines, dbt projects, spark jobs, and copy tasks for providing data, and semantic models for analytics. Define/implement compliant data models supporting business needs. Define/implement monitoring/alerting for data quality, load performance, and capacity management. Leveraging advanced, cloud-scale tools to ingest and prepare enterprise data for reporting, alerting, machine learning, and data science. Maintaining source code management repositories for supported systems. Writing technical documentation and process flows for supported systems. Providing technical expertise to examine, troubleshoot, and repair problems within supported systems. Analyzing and researching new technologies applicable to data engineering. Engaging in requirements gathering through understanding business processes and end user needs. Translating functional requirements into technical solutions, and communicating and documenting solutions as needed. Creating standard operating procedures and implementing process improvements as needed. Who You Are. Demonstrated Data Engineering experience is required. Experience working with data independent of applications and preparing it for analytics and data science is required. Knowledge and proficiency with Fabric, Power BI, ION ETL (Pentaho), and/or Azure is valued. Experience developing automated data validation and testing routines is valued 3 years’ experience in data engineering supporting analytics is valued. Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field is valued.
