To safely collect residential refuse throughout the City as part of a bulky collection crew. Essential Duties: CORE COMPETENCIES:Performs manual labor in the special collection of all non-containerized solid waste, such as bags of yard waste, bulky items, construction debris, furniture items, small brush piles, and excess garbage placed in bags or boxes; lifts and carries trash bags, bulk items and containers to the truck for disposal; climbs onto and off of the rear truck step to load refuse and bulky items; operates packing mechanism to compact waste into the truck. Performs waste screening at the curb or pickup point and reports uncollectable or hazardous materials to the Equipment Operator; informs Equipment Operator when violations, pertaining to municipal solid waste collection and disposal services are encountered; responds to complaints at the curb or refers complaints to Equipment Operator. Assists in the daily operator level preventive maintenance; to include daily cleaning, of the collection vehicle. Adheres to safety precautions and regulations related to the operation of equipment; complies with all City and departmental safety rules, policies, and procedures; uses and wears personal protective equipment and clothing, and complies with safe working controls; reports all accidents or injuries to the supervisor immediately; completes reports as required. Effectively works together to meet the needs of the community and City through superior customer service, commitment and integrity. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the Citys Personnel Rules and Regulations; and complies with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred,? Six (6) months of general labor experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to perform operations safely;Knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining assigned equipment and tools;Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions;Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public;Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Special Requirements: Must have a valid Texas Class C license by date of hire; Texas Class B CDL preferred. Supplemental Information: Tools and Equipment Used.
