The School of Graduate Studies Biomedical and Health Sciences (SGS-BHS) at Rutgers University seeks a part-time, semester-based Education Support Specialist to support unit-wide digital accessibility initiatives. This role will assist in ensuring compliance and advancing best practices across digital learning environments, including course materials, Learning Management System (LMS) spaces, and web-based content. Working collaboratively with unit leadership, faculty, and instructional teams, the Specialist will support the review, remediation, and ongoing monitoring of digital content to align with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, ADA Title II) and institutional priorities. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in higher education, curriculum design, and digital learning. Position Status Per Diem Posting Number 26 FA 0462 Posting Open Date 05/19/2026 Posting Close Date 05/26/2026 Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience - Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biomedical sciences, education, instructional design, or related discipline) - Demonstrated experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or academic program support - Familiarity with digital learning environments (e.g., Canvas or other LMS platforms) - Experience working with faculty and/or academic leadership Certifications/ Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities PhD. in biomedical sciences, health professions education, or a closely related field 10 years of experience in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation in biomedical or health professions education Demonstrated experience in faculty development, including designing and facilitating workshops or mentoring educators Experience with online or hybrid course design and use of educational technologies Knowledge of digital accessibility standards, including Title II requirements (e.g., WCAG, ADA compliance, Universal Design for Learning) Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and digital platforms to support teaching and learning Experience contributing to continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes or program evaluation in higher education Evidence of scholarship or professional contributions in education (e.g., publications, presentations, or editorial work) Preferred Qualifications 15 years of experience in curriculum development and academic program leadership in biomedical or health professions education Experience in academic leadership roles (e.g., course director, program director, assistant/associate dean) related to curriculum, instructional innovation, or educational scholarship Experience leading faculty development initiatives focused on inclusive, accessible, and learner-centered teaching practices Expertise in integrated or systems-based curricula, including connecting foundational science to clinical or applied contexts Demonstrated use of active learning strategies (e.g., team-based learning, flipped classroom, case-based learning) Experience implementing digital learning initiatives or online modules at the course or program level Experience supporting curricular transformation or integration initiatives across courses or programs Experience aligning curriculum with accreditation or quality standards (e.g., LCME-informed frameworks), including principles related to accessibility, inclusion, and continuous improvement Engagement with national or international educational organizations, collaborations, or editorial role Equipment Utilized - Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) - Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) - Adobe Acrobat and document remediation tools - Web content management systems (as applicable) - Accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., screen readers, checkers) Physical Demands and Work Environment - Primarily remote or hybrid work environment - Extended periods of computer-based work - Occasional virtual or in-person meetings with faculty and staff Overview - Review and evaluate electronic course materials (e.g., syllabi, slides, PDFs, multimedia) for accessibility compliance - Support accessibility remediation efforts (e.g., document formatting, alt text, captioning guidance) - Assist in auditing and improving LMS course shells (e.g., Canvas) for accessibility and usability - Collaborate with faculty to revise and enhance course materials using inclusive and accessible design practices - Support the review and updating of SGS-BHS webpages and digital communications for accessibility - Monitor ongoing accessibility compliance and track progress across courses and programs - Develop guidance documents, templates, and training resources for faculty and staff - Provide consultative support to faculty on accessible teaching practices and digital tools - Assist leadership in advancing strategic digital accessibility initiatives and reporting efforts Statement Posting Details
