Plans, directs, assigns, and evaluates the work of fire equipment mechanical personnel in the inspection, maintenance, repair and testing of a variety of fire apparatus, light and heavy vehicles, and specialized fire fighting equipment. Monitors and controls the fire apparatus preventive maintenance program and maintains detailed records of all maintenance and repair of fire apparatus and equipment. Inspects new apparatus during assembly to ensure the manufacturer's compliance to specifications prior to acceptance by the Department. Participates in the development of testing and repair procedures for fire apparatus and support vehicles. Assists in the development of parts specifications and parts acquisition. Coordinates and expedites repair activities at the scene of a major fire or emergency. Acts in the absence of the Chief, Fire Fleet Services. May be required to test drive various fire fleet apparatus.

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited - college or university -AND- either three years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County Senior Fire Equipment Mechanic - - or four years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County Fire Equipment Mechanic - - - in the repair and maintenance of automotive and power equipment and/or fire fighting apparatus. One year of the required experience must have included responsibility in assisting in the management of the operations of a large - - - - private or public fleet. An additional four years of the required experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree. LICENSE INFORMATION:A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job related essential functions. Some positions may also require a valid California Class B Driver License and a valid California Class A Driver License. PHYSICAL CLASS:Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
