This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Grounds Management Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The primary responsibility of Park Maintenance Technician I is to perform various ground maintenance repair tasks for the basic upkeep of City owned parks, natural spaces, trails, center medians and rights of ways. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Operating various vehicles, mowing equipment, and standard gasoline powered or electrical tools to perform various ground maintenance repair tasks. Following safety practices in the use of vehicles, tools, and equipment operation. Completing daily work orders, safety reports, and other job-related documentation. Performing work independently or in close proximity to other workers. Performing other duties as assigned. VETERANS PREFERENCE - Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD 214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator or greater). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of and ability to follow safe work practices and procedures in the performance of assigned tasks. Knowledge of and skill in using and operating ground maintenance tools and equipment. Skill in performing various ground maintenance and repair tasks. Skill in interpreting and completing standardized forms such as pre-trip inspections sheets, etc. Ability to learn. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and with others.
