We are currently seeking instructors to cover a variety of classes as needed at the Paul Derda Rec Center and Broomfield Community Center. This position is responsible for providing instruction in the fitness area such as various levels of cardiovascular training for participants of varying levels of fitness, skill and ability. This position is also responsible for providing proper instruction in weight training and mat work that is appropriate for the various muscle groups of the body. Salary Range: $22.98 - $31.08/hour
Essential Required Tasks/ Examples of Duties
General Duties. Develops and leads participants in cardiovascular and/or muscle conditioning exercises appropriate for the level of the class that is safe and in line with the course description. Instructs participants in proper exercise heart rates. Monitors participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique. Provides feedback to class participants. Maintains current and accurate attendance records. Interact with class participants and demonstrate exercises or training activities that may include the following actions based on the format that is being taught: aerobic dance exercises, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, stretching, swimming, weight lifting, full body movement, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Education. Must possess and maintain a current national fitness/aquatic certification such as ACE (American Council on Exercise), AFAA (Aerobic Fitness Association of America), or AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association), Instructor certification or specialty programming certification appropriate for the format applying for (Les Mills, Silver Sneakers, Zumba, etc.) or experience equivalent to perform specialized instruction to participants as expected. Must possess and maintain a minimum of an Adult CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Experience. Less than 1 year experience required in teaching group fitness classes. The Aqua Aerobics, Line Dance,and Tai Chi positions prefer previous instructor experience. For other positions, previous experience in the particular area (aerobics, weight lifting) of instruction is preferred such as physical fitness, athletic training, or physical therapy. Necessary Applicant Traits Copies of national certification and/or CEU’s (continuing education credits) must be provided with application. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry.
Working Conditions
Work is generally scheduled in advance with classes scheduled Monday through Sunday and may include early morning hours, afternoon hours and evening hours. Must provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the participant during instruction which includes a full range of physical activities including: performing and maintaining aerobic exercise, bending, stretching, and lifting minimal weight.
