Cleveland Clinic’s M 81 Surgical Short Stay Unit cares for patients in need of extended recovery or observation following surgeries or procedures. This unit captures a wide variety of specialties, including endocrinology, urology, radiology, general surgery, plastics, colorectal, neurology, orthopedic, and ophthalmology. M 81 caregivers pride themselves on delivering efficient and effective workflow processes to ensure patient discharges are expedited and care is of the highest quality. Because of the variety and complexity of patients cared for, M 81 offers caregivers an array of growth and learning opportunities. This unit also has an active unit-based Shared Governance and high caregiver engagement. As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible. A caregiver in this position works nights 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. no weekends. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, further technical skills of phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG’s and removing urinary Foley Catheters. Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN. Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before within new hire period (Nursing Students required to have BLS prior to hire) One year of recent, full-time patient care experience Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience) Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68 W) or Medical Service Technician (4 N 0 X 1) will be considered Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level. Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
