The Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) Section provides comprehensive legal services across a broad spectrum of regulatory and revenue-related matters. The team is dedicated to upholding Colorado’s regulatory framework, financial integrity and community safety through litigation, general counsel, and other specialized legal services. R&R’s 10 units provide legal services to over 70 state agencies, divisions, boards, commissions, enterprises, ombudsmen and statutorily created task forces. WHAT YOU WILL DO - There are two Senior Paralegal opportunities in the R&R section. By applying to this position, you will be considered for both of the roles below: Professional Boards and Programs Unit. The Professional Boards and Programs Unit (“PBP”) primarily represents the Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) and the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). In that capacity, Unit members prosecute licensed professionals and entities for violations of their practice acts. These violations can include substandard work, substance abuse or diversion, and criminal conduct which impacts the licensee’s practice. Unit members also represent clients in licensure denial actions, litigate civil enforcement, injunctive actions and subpoena enforcement actions along with providing general counsel regarding legislative/policy matters, rulemaking and case analysis. This position provides legal assistance to attorneys representing and advising DPO and DOLA by reviewing, organizing and drafting legal pleadings and settlement documents; reviewing, organizing and summarizing financial, criminal, and other types of records; investigating and confirming factual information; organizing documents, witnesses and court reporters for depositions and hearings; and performing necessary legal assistance services to unit attorneys. This position functions as a liaison between attorneys, client agencies, opposing counsel; the public, expert witnesses, other sections of the Department of Law, the Office of Administrative Courts, and state or federal trial and appellate courts. This position also contributes to office-wide projects as needed and will support other legal assistants in other units within the Section depending on workloads. Specialized Business Group Unit. The SBG Unit provides legal services to various agencies with the Department of Revenue regulating industries such as gaming, racing, sports betting, auto industry and motor vehicles dealer board, and the Colorado Lottery, as well as ensuring adherence to state laws and industry standards. The SBG Unit also represents programs in the Department of Local Affairs, including the Colorado Property Tax Administrator. This position provides advanced paralegal support for administrative hearings, trial and appellate litigation, and regulatory matters involving state agencies and regulated industries. Responsibilities include preparing and filing legal pleadings and hearing documents; conducting legal and factual research; managing case files, discovery, exhibits, subpoenas, and hearing logistics; tracking deadlines and maintaining case management databases; coordinating with attorneys, clients, witnesses, courts, and opposing counsel; reviewing and organizing large volumes of documents for relevance, privilege, and confidentiality; assisting with trial and hearing preparation; and supporting litigation involving agencies such as the DMV, Division of Gaming, Lottery, Racing, and professional licensing programs. The role also supports records management, appeals processing, discovery coordination, and ongoing development of systems to improve case organization, workflow, and compliance with court and administrative procedures. This recruitment may be used to fill more than one Administrative Assistant II positions in the Civil Litigation and Employment Law section. Salary note: Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
