Performs highly-skilled work in construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems (including medium and high voltage), equipment, and fixtures. Maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective, and comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for constant reliable operations related to all campus wide high voltage electrical systems. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/ Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications High school diploma and 5 years of background experience in Mid to High Voltage (480 V to 8320 V) electrical distribution systems and the associated equipment of substations and energy plants. Confined Space certified; Licensed in SC as a General Contractor with a Public Electrical Utility Endorsement High Voltage Electrician; CDL License. Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities Due to the size and complexity of the various University utility systems, it is necessary that employee must have strong knowledge of high voltage distribution systems and the effects of work actions. Employee must be hard working, dependable and have safety as priority one. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, one-line electrical diagrams and other electrical documents. Must have electrical troubleshooting skills and think logically. Must have the ability to lead by example, solve problems, take initiative to provide services, develop strong customer relationship. Must have the ability to keep accurate records, communicate effectively, develop proper procedures, communicate to management, and prepare reports. Job Duties Job Duty Maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for reliable operations related to all campus wide high voltage electrical systems, including but not limited to building, energy plant, manholes, tunnels and direct bury electrical systems by receiving work orders; Communicating with the supervisor, planning, inspecting, verifying, communicating, and problem solving assigned facility electrical issues; Assisting with ensuring that all facility high voltage systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism in conduct, appearance, and work practices. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 35 Job Duty Installs, repairs and maintains existing high voltage electrical distribution systems(s), including but not limited to high voltage cable, switches, transformers, terminations and test equipment Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty Performs regular and preventive maintenance on high voltage equipment including energy plant electrical systems. Operates and maintains tools and equipment needed to perform assigned tasks, requisitions needed materials. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty Reads blueprints, manuals, schematics and other drawings to complete repair(s) or installation(s). Assists in resolving high voltage campus related questions to include daily operation, system design, and capital project requirements. Attend meetings as required.
