This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week during academic breaks) student greenhouse laborer for the Ag Greenhouse Operations at Oregon State University (OSU). Greenhouse Operations is recruiting for students to work at the OSU West Greenhouses. Position will perform routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of greenhouse research. Primary tasks include daily temperature and HVC checks, hand watering, and assisting in greenhouse maintenance tasks. Occasional weekend work required. Selection is dependent on availability and class schedule. Other duties include: Hand watering Checks of environmental control system General greenhouse clean up and sanitation Occasional greenhouse maintenance and upkeep Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term - Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term - - International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Full/part-time undergraduate student Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to greenhouse staff and clientele. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, use ladders, and manipulate watering hoses. Ability to work occasional weekends and holidays. Ability to work in extreme temperatures, lighting, humidity, and dust conditions Preferred (Special) Qualifications A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. Basic understanding of plant cultural needs such as watering and environment. Working Conditions / Work Schedule May have exposure to noxious odors, loud noises, wet and slippery floors, and machinery. May be exposed to extreme temperatures, lighting, humidity, and dust conditions. May maneuver up to 30 lbs. and may be required to stoop, bend and kneel on hard floors as necessary, and push or pull carts.
