By joining our Department of Highways, Division of Environmental Analysis and Cultural Resource Branch as a Historic Preservation Coordinator in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to complete or manage research, documentation, and NRHP evaluation of historic structures or sites that may be impacted by proposed transportation projects, and coordinate results with appropriate resource agencies to obtain Section 106 clearance. Summary of Responsibilities: Conduct limited fieldwork pursuant to obtaining Section 106 clearance for KYTC projects Request, review, and manage consultant scopes of work, fieldwork, and reports to obtain Section 106 clearance for KYTC projects Coordinate the results of historic preservation investigations with regulatory and federal agencies including the Kentucky Heritage Council, the Federal Highway Administration, the Army Corps of Engineers, and KYTC project team members Follow changes in regulations, laws, or specifications at the state and federal level and provide feedback on how such changes may impact project schedules Complete data entry on projects so that all team members know the current status for Section 106 Ideal candidate will have experience in: Applicant should possess a demonstrated familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 4(f) of the National Transportation Act of 1966, the methods of documentation and assessment of historic structures and locations pursuant to determining eligibility under the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), and additional pertinent state and federal laws regulating historic preservation, which will be significantly enhanced in this position Applicant should possess a demonstrated familiarity with the history, settlement, and structures of North America and specifically the Ohio River Valley, which will be enhanced in this position Applicant should possess a demonstrated familiarity with historic preservation investigation techniques and general knowledge of analytical procedures, which will be significantly enhanced in this position Applicant should possess a demonstrated ability to create and assess scopes of work, including schedules and budgets, for historic preservation investigations, which will be significantly enhanced in this position Applicant should possess good organizational as well as interpersonal skills and should be proficient in communicating complex ideas or projects in brief summaries Benefits and Perks: Comprehensive health with optional dental and vision insurance. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in anthropology, archeology, architectural history, architecture, historic preservation, history, American studies, American civilization, folklore, cultural geography, early American culture, museum management, art history or a related field. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional experience in the field of historic preservation. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A doctorate in one of the above listed academic fields will substitute for two years of the required experience. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in historic preservation, cultural resource management, or a related field will substitute for the master's degree on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
